Mike Handler
Sailor of the Week: February 9-15Mike Handler of Walpole, Mass. is the Founder and Executive Director of Cruise for Life, a unique sailing and power boating event that raises money for the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The goals are to raise money for the fight against cancer; to help find a cure; and to support innovative cancer research and compassionate patient care at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and other New England based cancer centers.
“We want to raise these funds while doing what we love, boating and being on the water,” said Mike.
Cruise for Life is actively looking for participants and yacht clubs to get involved. Currently the Blue Water Sailing Club and the Jubilee Yacht Club have signed on as supporting yacht clubs.
Mike is avid offshore sailor, who has a Marion to Bermuda and two Newport to Bermuda races under his belt. He also enjoys sailing the New England coast on their Catalina 40, Little Miss Magic, with his wife Marcie, six year old daughter Ellie and four year old son Evan.
