Congratulations to William "Doug" Douglass and his crew aboard Goombay Smash for winning the Melges 32 World Championship on September 24 in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
The two-timer winner of the Farr 40 North American Championships, Douglass improved his seventh place finish at last year's Melges 32 World Championship in San Francisco. He was accompanied by tactician Chris Larson and crew members Marco Constant, Andy Escourt, Stu Pollard, Mark Towill, Chris Welch and Alan Nakanishi. Douglass is a passionate sailor who grew up sailing on the New England coast and now resides in Brooklyn, N.Y. He has proven over the years to have a knack for putting together a winning team year after year.
In 1994, Douglass founded K2 Advisors, a fund of hedge funds based in Stamford, Conn. Prior to founding K2, he worked in the investment business in institutional sales, first at Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette Securities, and later at Tiedemann International Research, Ltd. Douglass earned a B.A. from Vanderbilt University in 1984. He is involved with numerous nonprofit organizations, including US SAILING, and has served on the Board of Trustees of Outward Bound USA and the CitySquash Board. Douglass has two children.
