For most of the day, sailors were not only competing against each other, but with the heavy breeze and rolling seas of the Atlantic. Racing began this morning at approximately 11 am in 8 to 10 knots from the South-Southeast. By the afternoon, wind picked up to 15 to 18 knots with 6 to 8 foot rollers. Racing starts at 11 am on the waters near Manasquan Inlet or Barnegat Bay on Friday. Similar conditions are forecasted.
The race committee set double windward-leeward courses. Races took between 35 to 45 minutes long.
U.S. Singlehanded Sailing Championships Chairman Brian Hawbolt said, "The sailors explained the day as challenging but a lot fun. They worked really hard out there today."
