MARION, Mass. (July 18, 2013) – Light and shifty winds on Buzzards Bay limited the 42-boat Laser Radial fleet to two races on Day 2 of competition at the U.S. Junior Women’s Singlehanded Championship (USJWSC), hosted by the Beverly Yacht Club in Marion, Mass.
Dana Rohde (Richmond Hill, Ga.) maintains a comfortable lead over the fleet through six races. She started the day with a win, yet closed the afternoon by placing 16th in Race 6, which is her current throwout. Rohde has won four of six races this week and holds a 14-point lead.
Simone Staff (Santa Monica, Calif.) placed third and second today to pull into second place. Staff is making her third appearance at the USJWSC. She was 10th last year in Chicago on Lake Michigan.
Rachel Bryer (Jamestown, R.I.) is in third place and Madelynn Widmeier moved up to fourth place after placing fifth in both races.
Racing at this three-day US Sailling National Championship is taking place on Buzzards Bay near Centerboard Shoal off of Converse Point. Racing begins at 11:00 am on Friday's final day of racing.
