ROCHESTER, N.Y. (August 24, 2013) – Patient sailors and a hard working race committee battled through light breeze and tricky conditions today on Lake Ontario at the U.S. Adult Sailing Championship, hosted by the Rochester Yacht Club. The eight teams in J/24s tallied just two more races on Saturday. Five teams are within five points of each other atop the talented leaderboard going into Sunday's last day of racing.
The day started with Rodger Voss (Albany, N.Y.) and Frank McNamara's (Wenham, Mass.) in a tie for the lead with Pat Toole (Santa Barbar, Calif.) just one point behind.
Saturday belonged to David Klatt's (Oxnard, Calif.) team who leaped into first place after sitting in fourth after Friday's racing. They won Race 5 and placed second in Race 6. They were equaled by Bryan Dyer (Fort Worth, Texas) who also finished second and first today. Dyer is in third place, one point behind Toole who finished third twice this afternoon.
"Compared to yesterday it was much lighter, but less shifty," explained Klatt, who has one of the lighter crews in the fleet. "You could see the holes easier today. Overall we just need to keep going fast in these conditions and not over-manuever. We expect similar conditions tomorrow, so we need to concentrate on the shifts and sail the course."
There was an hour postponement this morning, and Race 5 began just before 11:00 am. They raced in light southerly winds at 4-5 knots to start, but by finish the wind dipped to just 2 knots. The race was shortened to three legs. Race 6 did not get underway until 2:45 pm in an ENE breeze at about 6 knots.
The plan for Sunday is complete two more races to close out the round robin. Teams are racing in an 8-boat rotation.

About Old Pulteney
Old Pulteney Single Malt Scotch Whisky is crafted at Pulteney Distillery in Wick, Scotland. The distillery was founded in 1826 by James Henderson at the height of Wick’s herring boom. The distillery lies in the heart of “Pulteneytown,” which was one of the largest and most important herring fishing ports in Europe. Old Pulteney has a long standing association with the sea and is the official scotch of US Sailing. Its carefully crafted taste carries the windswept and rugged character of the North, the salty and fresh air of the North Sea, and the distillery’s rich maritime heritage runs through every drop of this fine malt.
