PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (November 30, 2011) – US Sailing, the National Governing Body of the sport, has officially extended their sponsorship agreement with Old Pulteney, a leading single malt Scotch whisky brand. Old Pulteney became the official Scotch of US Sailing when the two parties signed the initial sponsorship deal in April of 2011.

The sponsorship agreement includes direct support for the organization, including select US Sailing Adult National Championships and Speaker Series events, hosted at sailing venues around the country. Old Pulteney will be present for on-shore social events and receptions during these US Sailing events.

“We are excited Old Pulteney has agreed to extend their partnership with US Sailing and build on what we have developed in 2011,” said Jack Gierhart, Executive Director of US Sailing. “They are a very popular supporter amongst sailors and contribute a lot to enhancing our events.”

Old Pulteney was founded in 1826 and is crafted at the Pulteney Distillery in Wick, Scotland. The brand has a long standing association with the sea and is known as the “Maritime Malt.” At a time when road links to the town were not established, the distillery was dependent on the sea for its supply of barley and for the shipping out of its Scotch.

Old Pulteney 21‐Years‐Old recently won one of the whisky industry’s highest accolades, World Whisky of the Year, in Jim Murray’s 2012 Whisky Bible Awards. Old Pulteney also won three other esteemed awards ‐ Scotch Whisky of the Year, Single Malt (Multiple Casks) of the Year and Single Malt (16‐21 Years) of the Year.

"US Sailing has truly complemented the Old Pulteney brand over the past year," said Pat Graney, President of International Beverage, USA. "We are thrilled to continue partnering with them, sharing our Scotch and offering our support to the sailing community throughout 2012."

Old Pulteney Single Malt Whisky
Old Pulteney Single Malt Whisky is crafted at Pulteney Distillery in Wick, Scotland. The distillery was founded in 1826 by James Henderson at the height of Wick’s herring boom. The distillery lies in the heart of ‘Pulteneytown’, which was one of the most important and biggest herring fishing ports in Europe.

Old Pulteney Single Malt whisky has a long standing association with the sea and is known as the “Maritime Malt.” Its carefully crafted taste carries the windswept and rugged character of the North, the salty and fresh air of the North Sea, and the distillery’s rich maritime heritage runs through every drop of this fine malt. The award-winning Old Pulteney portfolio includes the World Whisky of the Year title, in Jim Murray’s 2012 Whisky Bible Awards.
