2011 U.S. Multihull Championship: Day Two Report

LONG BEACH, Calif. (June 16, 2011) – The standings are tight at the top of the leaderboard at US SAILING's U.S. Multihull Championship, hosted by the Alamitos Bay Yacht Club. Twenty multihull teams, racing in Viper F16s, completed another three races today in light breezes on San Pedro Bay. Through six races total, each of the top four teams are seperated by just a point.

Sarah and Elizabeth Newberry (Miami, Fla.) jumped to the top of the standings by posting a bullet in race five followed by a second place finish in race six. They lead Matt Struble (San Diego, Calif.) and Damon Lacasella (San Diego, Calif.) by a point. Both teams currently have a sixth place finish as their throwout race. John Guiliano and Peter Guiliano (East Granby, Conn.) are two points back after finishing first and second in the first two races today. Their throwout race is the seventh place finish they recorded on the final dash of the day. Nigel and Tammy Pitt (Hartwell, Ga.) dropped to fourth place, but are just four points behind the leaders. Teams raced in light winds again today with wind speeds at 5-8 knots. Racing resumes Friday and the final round is Saturday. Twenty races are scheduled overall.
