PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (March 9, 2011) – US SAILING, the National Governing Body of the sport, and Old Pulteney, a leading single malt Scotch whisky brand, have formed a new partnership that names Old Pulteney as a sponsor and the “Official Scotch of US SAILING.”
The sponsorship agreement includes direct financial support for the organization, including support for select US SAILING Adult National Championships and Speaker Series events. Old Pulteney will be present for on-shore social events and cocktail receptions during these Adult National Championships and Speaker Series programs.
“We are excited to have Old Pulteney on board with US SAILING,” said Jack Gierhart, Executive Director of US SAILING. “Their support will help us expand our Speaker Series, strengthen our adult championships and enhance the social aspect of these events.”
Old Pulteney was founded in 1826 and is crafted at the Pulteney Distillery in Wick, Scotland. The brand has a long standing association with the sea and is known as the “Maritime Malt.” At a time when road links to the town were not established, the distillery was dependent on the sea for its supply of barley and for the shipping out of its Scotch.
“We at Old Pulteney are proud to share our brand’s rich heritage and fine expressions with adult sailors participating in US SAILING events,” said Pat Graney, President, International Beverage USA. “This is a very special opportunity for Old Pulteney to be part of the US SAILING community.”

Old Pulteney Single Malt Whisky
Old Pulteney Single Malt Whisky is crafted at Pulteney Distillery in Wick, Scotland. The distillery was founded in 1826 by James Henderson at the height of Wick’s herring boom. The distillery lies in the heart of ‘Pulteneytown’, which was one of the most important and biggest herring fishing ports in Europe.
Old Pulteney Single Malt whisky has a long standing association with the sea and is known as the “Maritime Malt.” Its carefully crafted taste carries the windswept and rugged character of the North, the salty and fresh air of the North Sea, and the distillery’s rich maritime heritage runs through every drop of this fine malt.
