Larry Johnson
PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (January 12, 2011) - Business consultant and corporate culture expert Larry Johnson will be a keynote speaker at US SAILING's 2011 National Sailing Program Symposium on Saturday, Jan. 29 at the Marriott Suites in Clearwater Beach, Fla. Larry will be discussing ways to run an efficient business, while demonstrating the willingness to persevere through difficult economic times. Find out what Larry had to say about his NSPS presentation in his interview with US SAILING.

US SAILING: Can you give us a brief synopsis of your NSPS presentation? What do you want attendees to learn from your presentation?

Larry Johnson: Right now, many organizations are facing falling revenues, restricted budgets, reduced growth, and dimming prospects for the future. Like past fluctuations in the economy, this downturn will eventually pass. In the meantime, those who survive, both organizationally and individually will be those who keep their spirits up and never stop looking for new ways to perform more efficiently, effectively and creatively.

Drawing on 22 years of consulting experience with some of the world’s foremost corporations and governmental organizations, I will offer suggestions on how to make it successfully through these stormy times.

I want the audience to get the following from my presentation:

How to:
• Adapt to new roles and organizational changes, so they stay ahead of the curve
• Stay positive, even when feeling down
• Turn gripes into goals
• Manage the psychological roller coaster that is a natural part of change
• Apply a three step process for selecting healthiest options in stressful situations

US SAILING: How can your corporate consulting experiences translate to the sailing industry?

Larry Johnson: I have worked with companies like Harley-Davidson, American Express, Federal Express and Best Buy, all of whom were going through major changes. Industries vary, but the challenges of dealing with change remain consistent.
