ANNAPOLIS, Md. (October 29, 2011) - Saturday night was the culmination of US SAILING’s 2011 Board of Directors Election, which took place during the Annual Meeting at the Loews Annapolis Hotel. For the past seven weeks, members of US SAILING submitted their votes to fill three seats on its Board of Directors. Bruce Burton (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.), Dawn Riley (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) and George Hinman (Greenwich, Conn.) were officially elected this evening. Hinman was nominated by the House of Delegates and ran unopposed for a three-year term. Click on the names below for a full profile, including a Q&A with the new board members:

This election is just another way US SAILING members let their voices be heard and take part in deciding the best people to lead the sport in the United States. All current US SAILING adult and family members were entitled to vote. The Nominating Committee named three candidates to fill two slots on the board. The two nominees that received the most number of votes filled those positions. Members of the Board of Directors serve for a three-year term.

This is the fifth year that US SAILING held elections to determine members of its Board of Directors. In October 2005, US SAILING amended its bylaws to restructure the organization and dramatically downsize the Board of Directors, from 49 to 15 members, making it more efficient. The organization's first elections were held in 2006.
