US SAILING’s 2010 Speaker Series program gets underway this month with a big splash. The Sarasota Yacht Club (SYC) will host the first Speaker Series event of the year on Tuesday, April 20 at 6:00 p.m. Renowned sailing expert, Dave Perry, will be on hand to share his knowledge and experiences with the local sailing community.
Perry is eager for this year’s US SAILING Speaker Series program to start. “These are always fun events and we have a lot of laughs while discussing some rules and tactical tips for getting good starts and dealing with crowded marks and legs,” Perry said. “Probably the best part of each evening is the open Q&A session at the end where sailors can ask me about any aspect of the race course.”
Sarasota Yacht Club Regatta Chairman Cindy Clifton expressed to US SAILING how valuable this opportunity is for sailors at all levels. “It’s fabulous for sailors to learn tactics and racing rules from the best,” Clifton said.
The SYC hosted a Speaker Series event last year with current US SAILING President Gary Jobson. “The feedback we received from last year was terrific,” added Clifton. “Everybody really enjoyed the presentation, and this year we are looking forward to welcoming Dave Perry.”
