ICSA Sponsorship Highlights US SAILING’s Commitment to College Sailing
PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (March 31, 2010) – US SAILING, the national governing body of the sport, has created a new four-year membership designed specifically for the college sailor. US SAILING has partnered with the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) to create a new college sailing website that provides useful resources for the college sailor and helps promote this segment of our sport.
“This is a great way to get college sailors involved with their National Governing Body,” said Mitch Brindley, president of the ICSA. “These resources are ideal for the college sailor. We believe this growing partnership with US SAILING will help provide more exposure to sailing at the collegiate level.”
The new four-year US SAILING College Membership, conveniently priced at $95, is valid for four years from the date of purchase. This membership incorporates all the great benefits that an adult US SAILING Membership offers. The college membership is valid for US SAILING Instructor certification requirements. In addition, members will receive a complimentary iPhone application and hard copy for the Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-2012 Including US SAILING Prescriptions, as well as special discounts from US SAILING partners including a four-year online subscription to Sailing World, 40% off an Atlantis spray top, and more.
“US SAILING remains committed to building a strong relationship with college sailing,” said Charlie Leighton, executive director of US SAILING. “Sailing at the college level is an outstanding training ground for competitive sailing in the U.S. Our goal is to encourage college sailors to continue sailing after they graduate and play a significant role in the long term health of our sport.”
US SAILING is host to a new website that puts the spotlight on college sailing with the latest news, video, rankings and results. Visitors can access essential resources suited for college sailing including fitness tips by Bow Down Training and information on where to find discounted gear. Recap last week’s college sailing and preview upcoming events in weekly episodes of Sailgroove’s Chalk Talk presented by US SAILING. Need a summer sailing job? Check out US SAILING’s Job Bank.
In collaboration ICSA, the new website will profile the College Sailor of the Week. US SAILING will continue to provide support for the ICSA National Semi-Finals. Last year, US SAILING presented the first annual Grit Award for Perseverance, which recognizes the teams who fulfill the last regional qualifying spots for the ICSA National Championships.
