  • US SAILING Receives Grant from U.S. Coast Guard July 28, 2010: US SAILING and the U.S. Coast Guard have strengthened their partnership in support of US SAILING’s Small Powerboat Handling program. The U.S. Coast Guard has awarded US SAILING with a significant one-year Drivers Education for Boaters™ grant.
  • New and Improved U.S. Singlehanded Championships Begins Friday in Pensacola July 28, 2010: A new division for women 16 or older has been added to the fold for the U.S. Singlehanded Championships. This US SAILING National Championship event, hosted by the Pensacola Yacht Club, gets underway this Friday, July 30 and runs through Sunday, August 1. Women will race in Radials and the men will sail in Lasers on Pensacola Bay.
  • Rising Stars to Compete at U.S. Youth Sailing Championships July 28, 2010: US SAILING will crown four champions representing four classes at one of the most premiere junior sailing events in the country next week in San Pedro, Calif. The U.S. Youth Sailing Championships, hosted by the Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club, begins on Monday, August 2 and runs through Wednesday, August 4.
  • Shuurmans and Strammer Crowned U.S. Singlehanded Champions August 1, 2010: The men’s and women’s divisions completed two more races today, which proved to be just enough for Leonie Shuurmans to complete her come-from-behind win in the women’s Radial fleet. Fred Strammer remained on track today to seal the win comfortably in the men’s Laser division.
  • Four Divisions Clash on Day One of U.S. Youth Sailing Championships August 2, 2010: Sunny skies, flat water, and plenty of breeze set the stage for day one of the U.S. Youth Sailing Championships, hosted by the Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club.
  • Fierce Competition Continues at U.S. Youth Sailing Championship Finale August 3, 2010: Sailing conditions were fantastic again in the Port of Los Angeles for day two of the U.S. Youth Sailing Championships. The standings remain close atop the leaderboard in three-of-the-four fleets, which bodes well for a climactic conclusion to the championship on Wednesday.
  • Elite Sailors Earn Top Honors at U.S. Youth Sailing Championships August 4, 2010: The best-of-the-best were on display at the 2010 U.S. Youth Sailing Championships. This year’s championship showcased top-level junior sailors from around the country in four highly competitive fleets, including C420s, Lasers, Radials, and 29ers. Three of the four fleets were won by US Sailing Development Team members.

  • Long Island Sound Rescue Merits US SAILING Hanson Medals October 6, 2010: US SAILING’s Safety-at-Sea Committee has awarded Arthur B. Hanson Rescue Medals to the U.S. and Canadian crews of two boats that rescued sailors on Sept. 10, 2009 from Long Island Sound during the 2009 International Star North Americans.
  • Crew Awarded US SAILING Hanson Medals for Chesapeake Bay Rescue October 13, 2010: A crew that rescued five people from Chesapeake Bay were awarded Arthur B. Hanson Rescue Medals by the US SAILING Safety-at-Sea Committee for the seamanship displayed by their crews.
  • Raab Takes Commanding Lead at Day One of US SAILING’s Championship of Champions Twenty of the country’s top one-design sailors and their crew had a busy day of racing Thursday in Ideal 18s at US SAILING’s 2010 Championship of Champions. Mercury 18 National Champion Chris Raab and his crew Robert Kinney have a 12-point lead through seven races.
